The Yale Bulldogs and the Fairfield Stags meet Monday in college basketball action from Leo D. Mahoney Arena. Yale is 8-3 overall this year. The Bulldogs lost to Kentucky in their last game. As for Fairfield, they’re 4-6 on the season and coming off a win versus Sacred Heart. Check back all season long for free college basketball picks at Sports Chat Place.

Yale beat Sarah Lawrence, Eastern Washington, MS Valley State, Hawaii, John Jay and Vermont in their first six games. The Bulldogs have since hit a 2-3 stretch with losses to Colorado, Butler and Kentucky.

In the Kentucky game on Saturday, the Bulldogs trailed 33-27 by the break. Yale posted a 36-32 halftime deficit and ended up losing 69-59. Tops in scoring was Jack Molloy with 14 points, and EJ Jarvis had 12 points.

Over on the Fairfield side, they went 0-4 over their first quartet this year before taking a win over Towson. The Stags have gone 3-2 in the five games since then, beating Evansville, Saint Peter’s and Sacred Heart along the way.

Fairfield took a 32-27 edge over the Pioneers at halftime in their Wednesday game. The Stags were outscored 32-29 from there but still hung on for the 61-59 win. Supreme Cook managed a double-double in that one with 15 points and 13 boards.

PICK: I’ll probably stick with Yale in this one. The Bulldogs have had a couple of tricky matchups in their last pair (against Butler and Kentucky), however this one should be more in Yale’s wheelhouse. It’s been a pretty good run of scoring for Yale this year; they’ve hit 73 or more points in seven of their 11 games so far. As for Fairfield, they haven’t eclipsed 67 points for five straight games and will probably struggle to keep up in this matchup if Yale is on point.
