The Florida Gulf Coast Eagles and the Florida International Panthers meet Wednesday in college basketball action from FIU Arena. Florida Gulf Coast fell to UNC Wilmington in their last outing, dropping the Eagles to just 1-6 on the year. As for FIU, they bagged their second win in eight games versus Kennesaw State on Sunday. Here’s our Florida Gulf Coast vs FIU prediction.

FGCU Eagles 

Florida Gulf Coast managed their lone win in game two versus Ave Maria 80-71. Other than that it’s been a futile run with losses to Indiana, Pittsburgh, Missouri State, Hampton and Norfolk State in the first half-dozen outings. FGCU shot a solid 44.2 percent from the field versus Norfolk State, but got burned on 17 turnovers as well. 

The Eagles dropped another one versus UNC Wilmington in their most recent outing, and it wasn’t close. Florida Gulf Coast was down 37-25 by halftime and limped to a 71-55 result. Leading the team in scoring were Zach Anderson, Chase Johnson and Isaiah Thompson, each with 12 points.

FIU Panthers 

Over on the Florida International side, they dropped their first three outings of the year versus UCF, Tarleton State and Miami before finally getting a win over Houston Christian. Another three-game losing streak versus Akron, Marshall and LMU followed, however. FIU ended up with just 18.8 percent from 3-point range in the 61-60 loss to LMU. 

Florida International was able to get back into the win column on Sunday versus Kennesaw State. The Panthers scored 45 points in the first half and 46 more from there in a 91-84 result. Javontae Hawkins led the team on 22 points, and Dashon Gittens added 13 points with six rebounds. 

ANDREW’S FREE FIU VS FLORIDA GULF COAST PREDICTION 

I’ll probably just stay with FIU in this one. There’s not a lot to get excited about here if you’re not a fan of either team, though. The good news for the Panthers is that they’re coming off a pretty solid effort versus Kennesaw State, hitting 56.1 percent from the field with 39 rebounds. The 18 turnovers and 18-8 deficit in offensive rebounding didn’t help, though. 

As for FGCU, they shot just 35.3 percent from the field against a pretty good UNC Wilmington team in their last outing. The Eagles have scored a combined 121 points in their last two games and I don’t see them keeping a cover pace here.
