The Alabama A&M Bulldogs and the Florida A&M Rattlers meet Thursday in SWAC Tournament college basketball action from Bartow Arena. Alabama A&M is 11-17 on the season. The Bulldogs lost to Southern in their last outing. As for Florida A&M, they’re 13-16 overall and beat Bethune-Cookman in their most recent game. Alabama A&M was only able to win consecutive games once over the first 21 outings, stumbling to a 5-16 record. The Bulldogs would then hit a nice six-game winning streak before a loss to Southern over the weekend.
On Saturday in the Southern game, the Bulldogs trailed by two points at halftime. Alabama A&M hit a 25-24 run in the second but it wasn’t enough in a 50-49 loss. Jalen Johnson was the top scorer with 16 points and eight boards.
Over on the Florida A&M side, they had a seven-game win streak going back in January but otherwise they’ve been quite a choppy team this season as well. The Rattlers are 2-1 in their last trio, losing to Southern and taking out Grambling and B-CU otherwise.
Matched up against Bethune-Cookman back on Saturday, the Rattlers hit a 39-31 run in the first half and a 45-42 stretch from there in an 84-73 victory. MJ Randolph was the leading scorer on 19 points with five rebounds.
The Rattlers are 6-2 ATS in their last eight neutral-site games and 17-8 ATS in their last 25 after an ATS win. Florida A&M is 5-1 ATS in their last six Thursday games.
Meanwhile, the Bulldogs are 1-4 ATS in their last five neutral-site games and 4-0 ATS in their last four after an ATS win. Alabama A&M is 1-5 ATS in their last six after a straight-up loss.
PICK: I’m going to try Alabama A&M here. The Bulldogs had an impressive run going during their six-game win streak. They hit 71 or more points in five of those games and came out of it to nearly beat Southern over the weekend.
Florida A&M won the first meeting between these teams 65-60 and the Bulldogs got the rematch 71-63—oddly enough both wins were on the road. This one’s sure to be another battle, and I think Alabama A&M can bounce back from the loss and power out a cover.
