The Grambling State Tigers and the Florida A&M Rattlers meet Monday in college basketball action from Teaching Gym. Grambling State is 4-11 so far this year. The Tigers are coming off a win over Bethune-Cookman. As for Florida A&M, they’re 2-11 and lost to Southern U in their last game. Grambling State struggled out of the gate this year with a 3-10 clip. The Tigers beat only Louisiana College, Morgan State and Jarvis Christian in that time. Since then it’s been a loss to Texas Southern and a win over Bethune-Cookman.
Matched up against Bethune-Cookman on Saturday, the Tigers managed a 34-26 first-half edge and held on for the 68-66 win. Tra’Michael Morton was the top scorer on 24 points with six rebounds and four assists.
Over on the Florida A&M side, they went 2-4 over their first six games with wins over LeMoyne-Owen and Fort Valley State. The last seven have been losses to FGCU, Akron, Cincinnati, Santa Clara, UCSB, Bethune-Cookman and Southern U.
In the Southern matchup on Saturday, the Rattlers were with in one point at halftime. Florida A&M couldn’t keep up from there in an eventual 80-66 loss. MJ Randolph was tops on 30 points, six rebounds and two assists.
The Rattlers are 12-5 ATS in their last 17 at home and 20-9 ATS in the last 29 after a straight-up loss. The under is 4-1 in Florida A&M’ last five Monday games.
Meanwhile, the Tigers are 2-5 ATS in their last seven Monday games and 1-4 ATS in their last five after a straight-up win. The over is 4-1 in Grambling’s last five overall.
PICK: I’m going to stick with Grambling, even though there’s not much to like about this matchup. The Tigers put up a solid effort against Bethune-Cookman in their last game, shooting 41.4 percent fro the field. Grambling was out-rebounded 36-40 and had just seven team assists, though. All of that said however, pace-wise Florida A&M probably won’t pose a huge threat on offense here. Grambling State should be able to power out the cover if they’re playing reasonably well. This one ought to be a pretty competitive game if nothing else.
