The Louisiana Tech Bulldogs and the Florida Atlantic Owls meet Thursday in college basketball action from FAU Arena. Louisiana Tech is 16-5 on the year. LA Tech posted an 8-3 run to start out the year, losing to Alabama, NC State and LSU. It’s been a nice 8-2 stretch for the Bulldogs since then, but they’re 1-2 in the last three. The losses have come to UAB and North Texas.
In the North Texas game, the Bulldogs had a three-point lead by halftime. Louisiana Tech was outscored 35-31 from there in a tough 63-62 defeat. Kenneth Lofton put up 20 points with 11 rebounds to lead the team in scoring.
Over on the Florida Atlantic side, they opened up on a 7-6 run before taking a couple of weeks off due to postponements. The Owls have gone 5-3 since then with wins over Marshall, Charlotte, Western Kentucky, Marshall again and UTSA.
On Saturday versus UTSA, the Owls were down 38-35 by halftime. Florida Atlantic surged on a 38-26 run from there in a 73-64 win. Both Alijah Martin and Bryan Greenlee put up 16 points apiece with a combined 12 rebounds.
The Owls are 5-0 ATS in their last five at home and 14-4 ATS in their last 18 Thursday games. The over is 4-1-1 in FAU’s last six overall.
Meanwhile, LA Tech is 15-3 ATS in their last 18 road games and 30-12-1 ATS in their last 43 overall. The Bulldogs are 5-0 ATS in their last five Thursday games.
PICK: I’m going to take a stab on Florida Atlantic. After a couple of duds in mid-January, the Owls have posted some solid offensive efforts over this 4-1 run; they’ve hit 68 or more in each game and 71 or more in four of five. As for Louisiana Tech, they managed just 62 points in their last game but the team routinely tops 70 points this season without much difficulty. This should be a fun, competitive, high-scoring game and I like the Owls to power out a cover.
