The North Florida Ospreys and the Florida Atlantic Owls meet Sunday in college basketball action from FAU Arena. North Florida is 2-7 so far this year. The Ospreys beat Edward Waters in their last outing. As for the Owls, they’re 4-4 on the season and coming off a win over Stetson. North Florida lost to Texas Tech, Texas A&M, Grand Canyon, Arizona State and UCLA in their first five before getting a win over Webber International. The Ospreys then lost to Kentucky and FIU before the Edward Waters win.
In the Edward Waters matchup, the Ospreys jumped out to a 45-30 halftime lead and cruised from there with a 58-27 advantage in a 103-57 win. Carter Hendricksen led the team with his 19 points, nine rebounds and five assists.
Over on the FAU side, they went 3-2 over their first five games with wins over Warner, TN-Martin and North Dakota alongside losses to New Mexico and Miami-FL. After more losses to Troy and James Madison, the Owls beat Stetson in their last game.
Back on Wednesday against Stetson, the Owls posted a 39-25 edge at halftime. Despite getting outscored 48-44 from there FAU hung on for the 83-73 win. Alijah Martin led the way on 17 points with five rebounds and two assists.
FAU is 4-1 ATS in their last five after a straight-up win and 4-1 ATS in their last five versus a team with a losing straight-up record. The over is 20-8 in the Owls’ last 28 after a straight-up win.
Meanwhile, the Ospreys are 1-5 ATS in their last six road games and 0-5 ATS in the last five after a straight-up win. North Florida is 1-5 ATS in the last six overall.
PICK: I’m probably sticking with Florida Atlantic. The Owls shot well versus Stetson in their last game with 58.6 percent from the floor, and collected 21 team assists. The rebounding edge (29-27) wasn’t great however, and FAU posted 13 turnovers as well.
As for North Florida, they’re coming off a much-needed easy game but have had scoring troubles for most of the year. The Ospreys haven’t hit 70 points in any of their losses, so they’re going to need to step on the gas to keep up here.
