The Rhode Island Rams and the Florida Gulf Coast Eagles meet Tuesday in college basketball action from Alico Arena. Rhode Island sits at 4-1 so far this year. The Rams took out Boston College by six points in their last appearance. As for the Eagles, they’re 2-2 so far and fresh off a win over Eckerd College. Rhode Island kicked off the year with three solid wins. The Rams took out Boston U 71-62, then Bryant 83-64 and Boston College 57-49. Rhode Island took their first loss in game four against Tulsa with a 77-71 result.
The Rams were able to get back into the win column on Sunday with another game versus Boston College. Rhode Island had a 34-24 advantage after one half and hung on for the 71-65 victory. Both Jeremy Sheppard and Antwan Walker scored 15 points in that one.
Over on the FCGU side, they got a nice 94-57 blowout win in their opener against Florida National, but then took a loss 89-77 to Loyola IL in game two. The Eagles couldn’t get past a tough USC team either, losing 78-61.
Florida Gulf Coast got back into the win column with a matchup against Eckerd College on Sunday. The Eagles jumped out to a 47-27 halftime lead and kept the pressure on from there in a 99-59 blowout. Dakota Rivers and Zach Anderson each notched a team-high 15 points.
FGCU is 2-5 ATS in their last seven at home and 11-5 ATS in their last 16 Tuesday games. The over is 4-1 in the Eagles’ last five after a straight-up win.
Meanwhile, the Rams are 1-4 ATS in their last five road games and 2-5 ATS in their last seven Tuesday games. Rhode Island is 4-1 ATS in their last five overall.
PICK: I’m going to try Rhode Island here. The Rams have a few things to clean up after their last outing, though. Rhode Island shot a nice 51.2 percent from the floor against Boston College Sunday, with 11-of-21 (52.4) 3-point shots made. The hefty scoring helped offset the 34-20 rebounding deficit (12-2 on offensive rebounds).
As for FGCU, they’ve got a couple of good wins against lesser teams but have struggled otherwise. I like this one to be fairly competitive with Rhode Island eventually banging out the cover.
