Florida didn’t have too much trouble with Stony Brook in their first game this year, surging to an 81-45 win to kick off the 2022-23 campaign. Game two against Kennesaw State was a little closer, but still an 88-78 win for the Gators.
Florida took their first loss of the year on Monday versus Florida Atlantic. The Gators had it all knotted up at 35 by halftime but ended up losing 76-74. Colin Castleton led the team on 30 points and 12 rebounds. Both KyleLofton and Will Richard added 14 points apiece.
Over on the Florida State side, it’s been a rough season already. The Seminoles faced off against Stetson in their season opener and ended up losing 83-74. Game two versus UCF was another rough outing and a 68-54 Florida State loss.
Matched up against Troy on Monday in their last outing, Florida State struggled again. The Seminoles trailed by seven points going into the second half and didn’t get closer in a 79-72 loss. Darin Green posted 24 points with six rebounds to lead the team.
The Gators are 4-11 ATS in their last 15 road games and 1-6 ATS in their last seven overall. Florida is 0-4 ATS in their last four after an ATS loss.
Meanwhile, the Seminoles are 5-2-2 ATS in their last nine Friday games and 8-20-1 ATS in their last 29 overall. Florida State is 2-7-1 ATS in their last 10 at home.
PICK: I’m going to stick with the Gators. Florida is going to need a good bounce-back effort after a frustrating matchup versus FAU, though. The Gators shot a tepid 38.2 percent from the field in that one but out-rebounded the Owls 46-37. Florida was stung pretty badly by FAU’s 54.2 percent (13-of-24) from 3-point range as well. All of that said, the Gators should be able to handle a struggling Florida State team with a cover here.
