The Mercer Bears and the Florida State Seminoles meet in college basketball action from the Donald L. Tucker Coliseum on Monday night.
The Mercer Bears will look to build on their 77-68 win over Winthrop in their last game. Jamar Robertson leads the Bears in scoring with 13.8 PPG while Jalyn McCreary has 13 PPG with 4.8 RPG this season. Luis Hurtado Jr. has 12.5 PPG with team-highs of 5.5 RPG and 6.2 APG while Shawn Walker Jr. has 12.3 PPG this season. Jah Quinones and David Craig each have 10+ PPG as well to cap off the scoring in double figures for Mercer this season. As a team, Mercer is averaging 88.3 PPG on 53.6% shooting from the field, 37.3% from three and 65.1% from the foul line this season.
The Florida State Seminoles will be out to bounce back from their 4th straight loss to start the year after a 76-67 loss to Florida in their last game. Darin Green Jr. leads the ‘Noles in scoring with 15.8 PPG while Caleb Mills has 13.3 PPG to make up the only other double-digit scorer for Florida State so far this season. Cam’Ron Fletcher has 9.8 PPG with a team-high 8.3 RPG to lead FSU on the glass while Jalen Warley has a team-high 3.8 APG this season. As a team, Florida State is averaging 66.8 PPG on 42.7% shooting from the field, 35.3% from three and 67.1% from the foul line this season.
Mercer is 4-0 ATS in their last 4 Monday games and 6-1 ATS in their last 7 games against a team with a winning percentage below .400 while the over is 4-0 in their last 4 road games. Florida State is 1-9-1 ATS in their last 11 games following an ATS loss and 1-4-1 ATS in their last 6 home games against a team with a losing road record while the over is 6-1 in their last 7 home games.
I get the reasoning for backing either side in this game, but I’m leaning towards Mercer and the points. The Bears are a solid team and my problem with FSU is that they’ve done less against less this season and less against more as well. I just don’t trust FSU against a solid Mercer team that’s catching the Seminoles in a down stretch right now. Give me the Bears.
