Florida A&M got off to a rocky start this season. The Rattlers dropped their first four games in a row to Oregon, Portland, Oregon State and Miami FL. The Rattlers finally got their first win of the year over Albany State last Monday.
In the Albany State matchup, Florida A&M faced a three-point deficit going into the second half. The Rattlers forced overtime and took a 70-65 win. Jordan Chatman led the team on 18 points and nine rebounds.
Over on the Florida side, they went 3-1 over their first four games this year with wins over Stony Brook, Kennesaw State and Florida State. The Gators fell to Xavier but bounced back with a win over Oregon State in game six.
Back on Sunday versus West Virginia, Florida fell behind 41-33 by halftime. The Gators had an even worse second half in a 43-22 loss. The only double-digit scorer on the team was Kyle Lofton with 17 points.
PICK: I’m probably still leaning Florida. Not going near this one, though; the line’s too thick to mess with. The Gators are coming off a rough outing versus a very good West Virginia team. Florida shot a tepid 34.5 percent from the field and went 2-of-17 (11.8 percent) from 3-point range. The Gators were out-rebounded 49-28 (15-6 offensive) and had 14 turnovers.
All of that said, the Gators should have no issues handling Florida A&M. The Rattlers have scored 61 or fewer points in four of their five games and won’t hang around for long here. The only question is the margin of victory.
