Boise State Broncos

The Broncos hit a .500 run over their first six games this year before a win streak over Saint Mary’s, North Texas, Western Oregon, Northwestern State and CSU Fullerton. Boise State is 5-1 since then with victories versus Utah Valley, San Jose State, Colorado State, Nevada and San Diego State.

In the San Diego State game on Saturday, the Broncos went into the locker room with a 34-31 edge. Boise State fell behind 35-33 from there but still held on for the thrilling 67-66 win. O’Mar Stanley led the way in the victory with 17 points, seven rebounds, one assist and one steal.

Fresno State Bulldogs

Over on the Fresno State side, they lost to Kent State, James Madison, UC Santa Barbara and BYU in their first 10 games. The Bulldogs are just 2-6 since then, however. Fresno State fell to Portland State, San Francisco, San Diego State, Nevada, Wyoming and Utah State in that time.

In Saturday’s matchup versus Utah State, the Bulldogs faced a 40-27 deficit by halftime. Fresno State didn’t get any closer than that in the end, falling 83-62 after a 43-35 second half. Isaiah Pope was the team’s top scorer with 16 points and two assists in 29 minutes of work.

I’ll stay with Boise State. The Broncos had some troubles with a talented San Diego State team in their last outing and shot a tepid 39.3 percent from the field. Boise State did pretty well on the boards though (32) and shot well enough from 3-point range (37.5 percent) to bag the win. The Broncos have scored 67 points or fewer in four straight games, however they’ve kept opponents below 69 points in each of those.

As for Fresno State, they’ve been below 68 points in four of their last five games. It’s not going to be easy finding offense against the Broncos, so I don’t think the Bulldogs will hit that threshold in Tuesday’s matchup.
