The Citadel had a 6-3 run over their first nine games this year, but it’s been sketchy since then. The Bulldogs are just 3-8 in their last 11, losing to SC State, Manhattan, Western Carolina, Chattanooga, VMI, Mercer, Wofford and Chattanooga again in that stretch.
In the Chattanooga game back on Saturday, the Bulldogs were outscored 35-27 in the first half and 40-35 in the second for a 75-62 defeat. Tops on the team in scoring was Tyler Moffe with 21 points, four rebounds and four assists.
Over on the Furman side, they were a spotty 7-5 in their first dozen this year but they’ve hit a 9-2 run in their last eleven. The Paladins beat Presbyterian, Samford, UNCG, Mercer, ETSU, Western Carolina, Wofford, VMI and Mercer in that time.
Matched up against Mercer on Saturday, the Paladins scored 44 points in the first half and 36 more from there in an 80-50 blowout win. Garrett Hien posted 12 points to lead the team, and Jalen Slawson put up 11 points with eight assists.
Furman is 10-1-1 ATS in their last 12 overall and 4-0-1 ATS in their last five Wednesday games. The under is 5-0 in the Paladins’ last five overall.
Meanwhile, the Bulldogs are 3-8 ATS in their last 11 overall land 5-11-1 ATS in their last 17 Wednesday games. The under is 4-1 in the Citadel’s last five overall.
PICK: I’m going to stay with Furman. The Paladins are looking good over the last eight games; their only blemish in that stretch was a 71-69 road loss to Chattanooga. Furman has hit 75 or more points in eight of their last nine victories, so the offense is rolling along nicely right now. As for the Citadel, they’re giving up a lot of points these days so it’s going to be hard for the Bulldogs to keep up. Furman should have the upper hand on this cover.
