Gardner-Webb vs Charleston Southern 12/29/22 College Basketball Picks, Predictions, Odds

The Charleston Southern Buccaneers and the Gardner-Webb Runnin’ Bulldogs meet Thursday in college basketball action from Paul Porter Arena. Charleston Southern is 4-7 this year. The Buccaneers beat Kentucky Christian in their last game. As for Gardner-Webb, they’re 5-7 overall following a win over Bob Jones University. Charleston Southern has managed wins over Toccoa Falls, Bethune-Cookman, Tennessee State and Kentucky Christian this year. The losses have come to Ohio State, Tulane, Virginia Tech, the Citadel, South Florida, Kennesaw State and Jacksonville. 

In the Kentucky Christian matchup last Thursday, the Buccaneers jumped out to a 66-32 edge by halftime. Charleston Southern scored 65 more points from there and won 126-67. Tahlik Chavez led the way on 33 points and three boards. 

Over on the Gardner-Webb side, they’ve got wins over NC A&T, Western Carolina, Piedmont International, NC Central and Bob Jones this year. The losses have been to Colorado State. Stephen F. Austin, North Carolina, Wofford, NC Central, Chattanooga and ODU. 

In the Bob Jones game, the Bulldogs were up 49-38 by halftime. Gardner-Webb scored another 67 points from there and won it easily 116-55. Kareem Reid posted 20 points with eight rebounds in the victory. 

PICK: I’ll probably stay with Gardner-Webb. Probably also staying away, though. The Bulldogs are on a three-game win streak (with two games versus overmatched competition) and have scored 71 or more points in five of their last six outings. As for Charleston Southern, they’ve hit 91 or more options in two of their last three games but overall they’ve been a mixed bag on the scoreboard. I like the Bulldogs to cover here, but I wouldn’t be surprised to see the Buccaneers keep it close.
