Radford managed to win four of their first eight games this year, but it’s been a mostly futile stretch since then. The Highlanders are just 2-9 in their last 11 games. Since their last win over Hampton, Radford has fallen to UNC Asheville and High Point.
In the High Point game on Wednesday, Radford kept the pace in the first half with a 33-33 tie. The Highlanders were outscored 30-25 from there in a 63-58 defeat. Leading scorer Josiah Jeffers put up 16 points with six rebounds and three assists.
Over on the Bulldogs’ side, they’ve been quite the streaky team this year. Gardner-Webb started out with three losses, then four wins, then four losses, then five wins, then three losses. Heading into Thursday’s matchup the Bulldogs had fallen to Longwood, USC Upstate and Winthrop in their previous trio.
In the Thursday game versus UNC Asheville, Gardner-Webb posted 37 points in the first half. Despite getting outscored 32-24 from there, the Bulldogs hung on for the 61-55 win. D’Maurian Williams led the way on 21 points and six rebounds.
The Bulldogs are 0-5 ATS in their last five at home and 1-4 ATS in their last five Saturday games. The under is 5-0 in Gardner-Webb’s last five overall.
Meanwhile, the Highlanders are 1-5 ATS in their last six road games and 10-28-1 ATS in their last 39 Saturday games. Radford is 7-20 ATS in their last 27 overall.
PICK: I’m likely going to take a stab on Gardner-Webb. Probably not going near this one, though. The Bulldogs haven’t scored all that well lately with 64 or fewer points in each of their last five outings. Gardner-Webb is 2-5 in that quintet though, and they were close in a couple of the losses.
As for Radford, they’ve been at 58 points or below in three of their last four games. The Highlanders are pretty tough to trust these days, especially on offense. I don’t think Radford will have the legs to get into a cover here, but it should be another lower-total matchup. Should be an interesting game as well.
