Over on the Bulldogs’ side, it’s been a rough year so far—to say the least. Gardner-Webb started out with losses to Minnesota, Clemson, North Greenville, Elon and DePaul in their first five games. Over the next half-dozen the Bulldogs would fall versus Richmond, Navy, SE Louisiana, UNC Wilmington, Queens U and Georgia Southern. The result through the first 11 games was a futile winless run.

Matched up against Brevard on Friday, the Bulldogs went into the second half with an eight-point lead. Gardner-Webb hit a 45-39 run the rest of the way and took the win 77-63 in the end. I’ll stick with Wofford. The Terriers really need a good bounce-back effort here after a rough game versus a middling Elon team, though. Wofford shot just 32.1 percent from the floor, 7-of-32 (21.9 percent) from 3-point range and 9-of-15 (60 percent) from the line in that one along with a 37-22 rebounding deficit and just eight team suits. The Terriers at least kept a good handle on the ball with just nine turnovers but pretty much everything else was sub-par. Wofford has scored just 115 combined points over their last two games, so I’d like to see them at least hit the 70-point mark in this one.

As for Gardner-Webb, they finally got a victory versus Brevard late last week but there’s still plenty to improve upon. The Bulldogs hit 53.3 percent from the field but had just 12.5 percent (1-of-8) from outside and 57.1 percent (12-of-21) from the line along with 13 turnovers. Gardner-Webb has 74 or more points in three straight games now but they’re giving up a lot on the other side as well.
