The American Eagles and the George Mason Patriots meet Tuesday in college basketball action from EagleBank Arena. American is 4-7 so far this year and fresh off a win over Mount St. Mary’s. As for George Mason, they’re sitting at 6-5 on the season. The Patriots beat Georgia in their last game. Check back all season long for free college basketball picks at Sports Chat Place.

American posted two wins in their first pair of games this year, then hit a losing streak to Georgetown, Longwood, Western Carolina, UMBC, Duquesne, Stony Brook and Howard. Since then it’s been two wins over St. Francis PA and Mount St. Mary’s.

In the Mount St. Mary’s game, the Eagles needed overtime to fight off the Mountaineers. American scored 11 points in the extra period in a 72-66 win. Connor Nelson led the way on 15 points with five rebounds.

Over on the George Mason side, they started off the year at a cool 4-0 before losses to James Madison, Washington, Nevada, South Dakota State and Old Dominion in succession. The Patriots have regrouped and won their last pair over Navy and Georgia, however.

On Saturday in the Georgia matchup, the Patriots scored 38 in the first half and 42 more from there in an 80-67 win. Leading scorer D’Shawn Schwartz put up 21 points, and Josh Oduro doubled up on 20 points and 11 boards.

George Mason is 6-1 ATS in their last seven at home and 4-1 ATS in their last five after a straight-up win. The over is 5-1 in the Patriots’ last six overall.

Meanwhile, the Eagles are 2-5 ATS in their last seven road games and the over is 4-1 in their last five road games. The over is 6-1 in American’s last seven overall.

PICK: I’m sticking with George Mason. The Patriots have bounced back pretty well in their last pair. George Mason shot a nice 51.9 percent in the Georgia game, collecting 31 rebounds (just one offensive, though) and 23 team assists along the way. The Patriots have scored 71 or more points in three of their last four outings.

As for American, they’ve hit 72 or more in three of their last five, but to be fair one was a loss and another was an overtime game. I like the Eagles to keep pace for most of the game here, but cover-wise I think George Mason is a better play.
