Old Dominion posted a 2-1 run over their first three this year, beating VA Wesleyan and Manhattan with a loss to JMU. It’s been a 1-4 run since with losses to Indiana State, Penn and East Carolina (twice).
In Tuesday’s matchup versus East Carolina, the Monarchs nearly came back from a nine-point halftime deficit with 30 second-half points but ended up losing 63-62. CJ Keyser led the team on 19 points with five boards and three assists.
Over on the George Mason side, they won their first five games over Stony Brook, Penn, Morgan State and Maryland. The Patriots have hit an 0-4 skid since, losing to James Madison, Washington, Nevada and South Dakota State.
George Mason hung around with South Dakota State well in their last game, but ultimately couldn’t get over the hump in an 80-76 loss. D’Shawn Schwartz was the high man on 29 points with four rebounds and three assists.
The Patriots are 5-0 ATS in their last five at home and 5-11 ATS in their last 16 Saturday games. The under is 20-7 in George Mason’s last 27 at home.
Meanwhile, the Monarchs are 3-10 ATS in their last 13 after an ATS win and 4-1 ATS in their last five at home. Old Dominion is 1-4 ATS in the last five overall.
PICK: I’m going to try George Mason in this one. The Patriots have lost each of their last four games, but the good news is that they’ve been competitive. Three of the four losses were by four points or fewer; George Mason just hasn’t been able to complete the comebacks.
As for Old Dominion, they’re coming off a tight loss themselves, shooting 42.3 percent from the floor with 37 rebounds and 16 turnovers versus East Carolina. This one looks like a pretty good matchup on paper, and I think George Mason can bang out a cover.
