The American Eagles and the Georgetown Hoyas meet in college basketball action from Capital One Arena on Tuesday night.
The American Eagles will be looking to build on a 74-62 win over William & Mary in their last game. Stacy Beckton Jr. leads the Easgles in scoring with 21 PPG as well as in rebounding with 7 RPG while Josh Alexander, Colin Smalls, Connor Nelson and Johnny O’Neil each have 10 PPG to make up the group of double-digit scorers for American through two games. Alexander has 4.5 RPG, while Smalls has 3 RPG and a team-high 4 APG this season. Nelson has 6 RPG and O’Neil has 4 RPG as well for the Eagles on the year. As a team, American is averaging 75.5 PPG on 46.2% shooting from the field, 30.6% from three and 65.2% from the foul line while allowing 67.5 PPG on 42.5% shooting from the field and 19% from three this season.
The Georgetown Hoyas will be hoping to bounce back from a 69-60 upset loss to Dartmouth last time out. Aminu Mohammed has a team-high 17 PPG and 6 RPG while Donald Carey has 14 PPG with a team-high 7 RPG and 3 APG to make up the pair of double-digit scorers for Georgetown after their opening game. Dante Harris also has 5 APG for the Hoyas. As a team, Georgetown is averaging 60 PPG on 39% shooting from the field, 34.8% from three and 66.7% from the foul line while allowing 69 PPG on 41.7% shooting from the field and 42.1% from three this season.
American is 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games overall and 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games against a team with a losing record while the over is 4-0 in their last 4 Tuesday games. Georgetown is 12-5 ATS in their last 17 games overall and 7-3 ATS in their last 10 home games while the under is 5-1 in their last 6 home games against a team with a winning road record.
I get why Georgetown’s favored, because they’re a power-6 school and get the bias as a result. However, the Hoyas looked awful in their opener and this is a theme whenever I’ve seen Georgetown and that is this team always finds ways to drop games or blow covers that they should have no issue getting. I’ll take my chances with American and the points here.
