The Fairfield Stags and the Georgetown Hoyas meet Saturday in college basketball action from Capital One Arena. Here’s a Georgetown vs Fairfield prediction. We will look at this from a betting perspective and determine the best Georgetown vs Fairfield pick.
Fairfield Stags Betting Preview
Last year Fairfield put up a nice 24-13 record overall with a 14-6 run in the MAAC. The Stags finished behind only Quinnipiac in the conference standings with that result. Fairfield would make it to the semifinals of the CBI before falling to Seattle in an end to their season.
In their first action of the 2024-25 season, the Stags matched up against Rhode Island. Fairfield fell behind 45-27 by the break and fell 96-58 in the end. Tops in scoring was Louis Bleechmore, the only one on the team in double-figures with 13 points and five boards.
Georgetown Hoyas Betting Preview
Over on the Georgetown side, they had a forgettable season last year with a 9-23 overall run and a scant 2-18 record in the Big East. The Hoyas landed ahead of only DePaul in the standings and would eventually fall to Providence in the opener of the conference tourney.
The Hoyas started off well in their opener this year versus Lehigh. Georgetown posted 44 points in the first half and 41 more from there in an 85-77 win. Both Micah Peavey (four rebounds) and Thomas Sorber (13 rebounds) led the team with 20 points.
Why the Georgetown Hoyas will win
- Fairfield has lost seven of its last eight away games when playing with a rest advantage.
- Georgetown has won four of its last five day games at Capital One Arena against non-AP-ranked opponents.
- Fairfield has lost the first half in six of its last seven games against the Big East Conference.
Why the Fairfield Stags will win
- Georgetown has lost each of its last eight games at Capital One Arena.
- Fairfield has won each of its last seven day games.
- Georgetown has lost the first half in seven of its last eight games at Capital One Arena.
Georgetown vs Fairfield Prediction
I’ll probably lean toward Georgetown. The Hoyas played a pretty good game versus Lehigh in their opener, notching 48.4 percent shooting with a 42-26 rebounding edge (17-8 offensive). Georgetown was pretty ugly from 3-point range though (22.7 percent on 5-of-22 shooting) and coughed up 14 turnovers.
As for Fairfield, they shot an abysmal 27.1 percent from the floor and 13.8 percent (4-of-29) from outside in their loss to Rhode Island. I like the Stags to look a little better here, but I don’t think they’ll get close enough to cover if Georgetown plays well.
