The Longwood Lancers and the Georgetown Hoyas meet Tuesday in college basketball action from Capital One Arena. Longwood is 4-3 on the year and coming off a loss to Old Dominion. As for the Hoyas, they’re 2-3 so far and lost to Saint Joseph’s in their last outing. Check back all season long for free college basketball picks at Sports Chat Place.
Longwood kicked off the year with a loss to Iowa, then won four straight over Virginia-Lynchburg, Mid-Atlantic Christian, American and UMBC. Since then it’s been losses to Western Carolina and Old Dominion in the last pair.
In the Old Dominion game, Longwood kept up for both halves and played a tight game. A late field goal from the Monarchs sealed the Lancers’ loss, however. Topping the team was Justin Hill with 14 points, three rebounds and two assists.
Over on the Georgetown side, they dropped their opener this year to Dartmouth but picked up wins over American and Siena in the next two. After that came losses to San Diego State 73-56 and Saint Joseph’s 77-74.
Georgetown had a 36-26 deficit at halftime in the Saint Joseph’s game and eventually made a competitive run toward a 77-74 loss. Kaiden Rice led the way on 25 points, and Timothy Ighoefe posted 14 rebounds with four points.
The Hoyas are 9-4 ATS in their last 13 home games and 4-1 ATS in their last five after a straight-up loss. Georgetown is 6-1 ATS in their last seven after an ATS loss.
Meanwhile, Longwood is 2-5 ATS in their last seven Tuesday games and the under is 4-1 in their last five Tuesday games. The Lancers are 4-1 ATS in their last five after a straight-up loss.
PICK: I’m probably staying with Georgetown here. The Hoyas started out slow in their last matchup, but eventually posted a 43.5 percent shooting mark from the field with 38 rebounds. Georgetown collected 12 team assists with 14 turnovers as well.
As for Longwood, they shot 42.6 percent against Old Dominion with 32 rebounds and 17 turnovers. I think the Lancers can stay in this one for most of the game before the Hoyas pull away and cover.
