St. John’s Red Storm
The Red Storm’s season got off to a pretty good 12-4 start, but St. John’s would then lose five of six to Creighton, Seton Hall, Marquette, Xavier and UConn. The Red Storm would then beat DePaul before losses to Marquette, Providence and Seton Hall in the next three.
In their home rematch with Seton Hall on Sunday, the Red Storm held a solid 41-29 edge by the break. Saint John’s faded in the second half on a 39-21 deficit though, and lost a tough one 68-62. Daniss Jenkins was the team’s leading scorer on 17 points with six assists and five rebounds.
Georgetown Hoyas
Over on the Georgetown side, their year started on an 8-7 run. The Hoyas haven’t won since January 6 though, falling to Seton Hall, UConn, Xavier, Butler, Providence, Marquette, Seton Hall, UConn, Creighton and Villanova in succession over the last 10 outings.
In the Villanova matchup last Friday, the Hoyas faced a 28-19 deficit by halftime. Georgetown didn’t get any closer on a 42-35 second half and lost by a sizable margin 70-54. Rowan Brumbaugh was the leading team scorer on his 14 points, five assists and two boards.
ANDREW’S FREE SAINT JOHN’S VS GEORGETOWN PREDICTION
I’ll stick with St. John’s. There’s not a whole lot to like about this one with both teams struggling, though. The Red Storm faded in the second half in their last game versus Seton Hall, eventually shooting a cold 33.8 percent from the field with 15 turnovers. If there’s good news, it’s that St. John’s had scored 72 or more points in three straight prior to that.
As for Georgetown, they’re giving up a lot of points on defense these days. The Hoyas have surrendered 70 or more points in every game during this current losing stretch, so St. John’s should have some significant scoring opportunities. If they can convert, the Red Storm should be able to cover here.
