The Xavier Musketeers and the Georgetown Hoyas meet Friday in college basketball action from Capital One Arena. Xavier is currently 8-3 overall and coming off a win over Southern U. As for Georgetown, they’re 5-6 so far this year. The Hoyas lost to Syracuse last weekend. Check back all season long for free college basketball picks at Sports Chat Place.
Xavier won their first three games this year then took a loss to Indiana. The Musketeers would then beat Florida, lose to Duke and Gonzaga, then beat SE Louisiana, West Virginia, Cincinnati and Southern U in succession.
On Tuesday versus Southern U, the Musketeers were up 40-24 by the break. Xavier outscored the Jaguars 39-35 from there and won 79-59. Leading scorer Souley Boum posted 17 points with seven assists in the victory.
Over on the Georgetown side, they went 4-4 over their first eight games this year, taking wins over Coppin State, Green Bay, La Salle and UMBC. Since then the Hoyas are 1-2, falling to South Carolina and Syracuse.
Last weekend versus Syracuse, the Hoyas trailed 45-34 by halftime. Georgetown was outscored 38-30 in the second half during an 83-64 blowout loss. Amir Spears led the team with 22 points, and Qudus Wahab doubled on 10 points and 11 rebounds.
PICK: I’m going to stick with Xavier. The Musketeers played a solid all-around game versus Southern U in their last matchup, posting 48.3 percent shooting, 41 rebounds and 27 team assists. Xavier has been scoring quite well this season. They’ve hit 79 or more points in five straight games. As for Georgetown, they’re just 1-3 in their last four games but they haven’t bee scoring too badly with 71 or more in two of those outings. Still, I don’t think the Hoyas will keep the pace here.
