The Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns and the Georgia State Panthers meet Friday in college basketball action from GSU Sports Arena. Louisiana is 13-13 on the season and coming off a win over Georgia Southern. Louisiana managed an 8-5 run to start the year. The Cajuns would then hit a sketchy 2-8 run from mid-January to mid-February, however. Over the last three outings Louisiana has beaten UL Monroe twice and Georgia Southern once in a 3-0 run.
On Wednesday in the Georgia Southern game, the Cajuns were down 34-35 heading into the break. Louisiana went on a 48-34 run in the second for the 82-69 win. Theo Akwuba was tops on 21 points with 10 rebounds and two assists.
Over on the Georgia State side, they weren’t able to win more than two consecutive games during their initial 8-10 run. Since then the Panthers have beaten South Alabama, Coastal Carolina, App State, Georgia Southern (twice) and UL Monroe for a 6-0 stretch, though.
Matched up against UL Monroe on Wednesday, the Panthers turned a 35-35 halftime lead into an 82-70 victory thanks to 46 second-half points. Both Justin Roberts and Corey Allen scored 15 points apiece with a combined 11 rebounds in the win.
The Panthers are 4-0-1 ATS in their last five after a straight-up win and 5-0-1 ATS in their last six overall. The over is 4-0 in Georgia State’s last four Friday games.
Meanwhile, the Cajuns are 10-2 ATS in their last 12 Friday games and 0-4 ATS in their last four after an ATS win. Louisiana is 1-5 ATS in their last six overall.
PICK: I’m going to try Georgia State here. The Panthers haven’t been spectacular on offense during this 6-0 stretch; they’ve been below 70 points in four of those games. That said, Georgia State is doing it on defense; they’ve allowed 63 points or fewer in five of the six victories.
Georgia State managed a 68-64 road win the last time these teams met up back on January 27. I like the Panthers to put together another cover in the rematch at home.
