The Jacksonville State Gamecocks and the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets meet Tuesday in NIT college basketball action from McCamish Pavilion. Here’s a Georgia Tech vs Jacksonville State prediction. We will look at this from a betting perspective and determine the best Georgia Tech vs Jacksonville State pick.

Jacksonville State Gamecocks Betting Preview

The Gamecocks had an impressive run going back in January and February, but otherwise it’s been quite a struggle in the win column this year. Jacksonville State started out 4-1, then took losses to Toledo, James Madison, South Alabama and Missouri in the next six games. A 3-2 run came next with wins over Eastern Kentucky, Fort Valley State and Western Kentucky, then a win streak over LA Tech, Sam Houston, UTEP, New Mexico State, FIU, Liberty, Middle Tennessee and Western Kentucky. Jacksonville State finished off the regular season on a 3-4 run with wins over LA Tech, UTEP and FIU. After wins over FIU and Middle Tennessee in the conference tourney, the Gamecocks fell to Liberty on Saturday for a 22-12 overall record.

In the Liberty matchup, the Gamecocks were down by four at the half. Jacksonville State didn’t get any closer than that after a 42-34 second and took the loss in the end 79-67. Leading the team in scoring was Jaron Pierre with 19 points, four assists and three rebounds. Marcellus Brigham added 12 points with four rebounds, one assist and one block. Quel’Ron House chipped in with 11 points, five boards and three assists during the defeat as well.

Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets Betting Preview

Over on the Georgia Tech side, they didn’t start out so great this year but their fortunes improved in late January. The Jackets opened on a 4-6 run with wins over only West Georgia, Texas Southern, Charleston Southern and Central Arkansas. A 4-1 stretch came next with wins over UMBC, Alabama A&M, Notre Dame and Boston College, then losses to Syracuse, SMU, Clemson and Florida State. A 5-3 run with wins over Virginia Tech, Louisville, Clemson, Stanford and California ensued before wins versus Pitt, NC State and Miami. After a loss to Wake Forest, the Jackets beat Virginia in the tournament before another loss to Duke. That gives Georgia Tech a 17-16 overall record this year in 33 matchups.

Back on Thursday versus Duke, the Yellow Jackets opened up with a surprising 31-26 halftime edge. Georgia Tech was blitzed 52-39 the rest of the way however, resulting in a 78-70 loss. Duncan Powell led the team with his 24 points, six rebounds and two assists in the losing effort. Baye Ndongo added 15 points with seven boards and three assists, while Lance Terry had 12 points with four rebounds in 40 minutes of work on the floor.

Georgia Tech vs Jacksonville State Prediction

I’m staying with Georgia Tech. The Yellow Jackets punched a great Duke team square in the nose during a nice first half back on Thursday, but couldn’t keep it going from there. Georgia Tech eventually shot 42.6 percent from the field and 44.4 percent (12-of-27) from 3-point range. That said, the Jackets also got outmuscled on the boards 38-31 and had 11 turnovers for 12 Blue Devils points. All things considered though, it was a nice effort and showcased a return to form on offense after a couple of down games.

As for Jacksonville State, they didn’t have a great outing versus Liberty in their last game, giving up a whopping 60 percent from both the field and from 3-point range (12-of-20). The Gamecocks had just five turnovers and did well on the boards but also went only 13-of-25 (52 percent) from the line. Jacksonville State has been below 68 points in two of the last three games, but can score when they’re so motivated. Still, I like Georgia Tech to outpace the Gamecocks on offense and power one out here.
