Gonzaga vs. New Mexico State Prediction

I’ll probably just stick with Gonzaga. The Bulldogs were able to fend off a pesky Purdue team this week thanks to 43 percent from the field, 38 percent (6-of-16) from outside, and 76 percent (26-of-34) from the line. Gonzaga had a slim lead on the boards, 34-31, and held the Boilermakers to 24 percent (5-of-21) from the 3-point range. It wasn’t the most dominant win in the world, but the Bulldogs held the lead for the vast majority of the game.

As for New Mexico State, they probably had a little more trouble than they should have in their win over Western New Mexico this week. The Aggies were out-rebounded 46-37 and were behind in the majority of the game, falling behind by nine points at one point. New Mexico State shot okay (41 percent) overall and hit 82 percent (18-of-22) from the free-throw line, though, and the 35 percent shooting allowed on defense helped turn the tide. Needless to say, however, Gonzaga is going to be quite a different experience, and I don’t think the Aggies get too close.

Game Info, Stats and Previews

The New Mexico State Aggies and the Gonzaga Bulldogs meet Saturday in college basketball action from McCarthey Athletic Center. Here’s a collection of relevant information and reasoning for a sound Gonzaga vs. New Mexico State prediction. We have looked at this information from a betting perspective and attempted to determine the best Gonzaga vs. New Mexico State pick.

New Mexico State Aggies Betting Preview

The Aggies posted a .500 record last season, powering out a 16-16 overall run. New Mexico State didn’t fare as well in Conference USA games, however, going 8-12 for a finish ahead of only UTEP and Delaware in the standings. After finishing off the regular season on a 4-2 run, New Mexico State beat Jacksonville State in the Conference USA Tournament ahead of a game-two loss to Sam Houston.

This year the Aggies have one game in the bag already. That one came on Tuesday versus Western New Mexico. New Mexico State was able to power out a 73-66 win in front of just under 5,000 fans at Pan American Center in Las Cruces. The Aggies were led by DJ Dudley, who notched 22 points with five boards, three assists, and two steals. Mark Lavrenov added 17 points with 10 boards for a double-double, while Jermaine Washington came off the bench for six points and three assists with three steals in 19 minutes of work in the win.

Gonzaga Bulldogs Betting Preview

Over on the Gonzaga side, they had a pretty nice season overall last year, but their national tournament life was cut short. The Bulldogs went 31-4 overall with a 16-2 run in West Coast Conference games, giving the team a co-championship in the regular season. Gonzaga ran the table in the WCC Tournament with wins over Oregon State and Santa Clara, then beat Kennesaw State in the First Round of the NCAA Tournament. The Bulldogs would then fall to Texas in the Second Round.

The Bulldogs also have one game in the bag so far this year. That one came on Monday against Purdue at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. Gonzaga ended up winning that one 78-72. Topping the scorers was Davis Fogle with 22 points, five rebounds, two assists, and two steals. Xaivian Lee added 18 points with four boards and three assists, while Izan Almansa came off the bench for 11 points and four rebounds in 29 minutes of work during the victory.

Why the Gonzaga Bulldogs will win

  • Gonzaga has won each of its last 17 games as a top-15 AP-ranked team against a non-AP-ranked team at McCarthey Athletic Center.
  • New Mexico State has lost the first half in three of its last four games against non-Conference opponents.
