The Tarleton State Texans and the Gonzaga Bulldogs meet Monday in college basketball action from McCarthey Athletic Center. Tarleton State enters this one at 1-5 so far. The Texans are coming off an 11-point loss to Michigan. As for Gonzaga, they’re sitting at 6-1 so far and took their first loss of the year to Duke in their most recent appearance. Tarleton State opened up the year with three straight losses, dropping to Stanford 62-50, Kansas 88-62 and Wichita State 65-51. After a win over Paul Quinn 69-42, the Texans lost to North Dakota State 54-53.
Back on Wednesday against Michigan, Tarleton State took another loss. This time the Texans were outscored 31-22 by Michigan in the first half on the way to a 65-54 defeat. Montre’ Gipson topped the team on 17 points with seven boards.
Over on the Gonzaga side, everything went according to plan in their first six outings. The Bulldogs took out Dixie State, Texas, Alcorn State, Bellarmine, Central Michigan and UCLA in succession to start off 6-0.
On Friday against Duke, Gonzaga was outscored 45-42 by halftime and couldn’t get any closer in an 84-81 defeat. Julian Strawther led the team on 20 points with 10 rebounds, and Drew Timme added 17 points with five rebounds and five assists.
Gonzaga is 2-5 ATS in their last seven home games and 2-5 ATS in their last seven as a home favorite. The under is 6-2 in the Bulldogs’ last eight Monday games.
Meanwhile, Tarleton State is 5-1-1 ATS in their last seven road games and 6-1-1 ATS in the last eight overall. The Texans are 3-0-1 ATS in the last four after an ATS win.
PICK: I’m probably sticking with Gonzaga but staying away. The line on this one will be extremely thick everywhere. The Bulldogs are coming off a disappointing outing despite shooting 53.1 percent from the floor with a 42-31 rebounding edge. Gonzaga posted 17 turnovers and 24 fouls in the loss to the Blue Devils. Rest assured they’ll be coming back with a vengeance in this one. I don’t think Tarleton will hang around long as the Bulldogs take out their frustrations from the Duke loss.
