The Alabama A&M Bulldogs and the Grambling State Tigers meet Thursday in college basketball action from Fredrick C. Hodby Assembly Center. Alabama A&M stands at 13-16 overall this year. The Bulldogs beat Alabama State in their last game. As for Grambling State, they’re 20-8 on the year after a win over Bethune-Cookman on Monday. Alabama A&M Bulldogs

Alabama A&M hit a sketchy 8-14 record over their first 22 games this year. The Bulldogs are 5-2 since then with wins over Southern U, MS Valley State, AR-Pine Bluff, Bethune-Cookman and Alabama State during that time.

Back on Saturday versus Alabama State, Alabama A&M held a slim 30-29 halftime edge. The Bulldogs scored 25 points in the second half and powered out the win 55-50. Messiah Thompson led the team on 17 points and two rebounds.

Grambling State Tigers

Over on the Grambling State side, they managed a 13-8 stretch over their first 21 outings this year. The Tigers have since taken wins over Alabama State, Alabama A&M, Texas Southern, Prairie View, Southern U, Florida A&M and Bethune-Cookman.

Matched up against Bethune-Cookman on Monday, the Tigers went into the second half tied up 24-24. Grambling State hit a 42-30 run from there and won it 66-54. Cart’Are Gordon was the team’s top scorer on 22 points and eight rebounds.

I’m going to stick with Grambling State. The Tigers have found their rhythm over this seven-game win streak, scoring 65 or more points in each of those outings. Grambling State has been above 69 points just once (73) during that stretch however, so they’re getting it done with defense. One of those wins came back on February 6 at Elmore Gymnasium against Alabama A&M. The Tigers hit a 31-18 halftime lead in that one, but had to scramble a bit for the victory 66-60. Back at home I think Grambling State will have a more comfortable time in the rematch.
