The Texas-Arlington Mavericks and the Grand Canyon Antelopes meet Thursday in college basketball action from GCU Arena. TX-Arlington is 5-12 overall this season. The Mavericks lost to Seattle in their last game. As for Grand Canyon, they’re 11-5 on the year and fresh off a loss to Stephen F. Austin. TX-Arlington managed to go 5-7 over their first 12 games, beating Southwestern TX, Hardin-Simmons, Northern Kentucky, Howard Payne and San Francisco. The Mavericks have since lost to California, Tarleton State, Stephen F. Austin, Utah Valley and Seattle.

In the Seattle game on Saturday, the Mavericks were down 41-36 by the break. TX-Arlington fell further behind on a 35-25 second-half deficit and lost 76-61. Shemar Wilson led the team on 18 points and eight rebounds.

Over on the Grand Canyon side, they were 8-4 after 12 games with losses to Nevada, Wichita State, LMU and North Texas. The Antelopes are 3-1 in their last four with wins over Idaho State, Cal Baptist and Sam Houston.

In Saturday’s matchup versus Stephen F. Austin, Grand Canyon was down by four points going into the second half. The Antelopes posted another 34 points from there but lost 73-68. Rayshon Harrison was tops on 19 points with four assists.

PICK: I’m going to stay with Grand Canyon. The Antelopes had trouble with a pretty good Stephen F. Austin team in their last outing, but overall they’ve played pretty well lately. Grand Canyon has scored 68 or more points in five straight games, going 4-1 during that stretch. As for TX-Arlington, they stayed with Seattle reasonably well in the first half on Saturday but eventually fell behind. The Mavericks have 64 points or fewer in five straight games and I don’t see them keeping a cover pace here.
