The Hofstra Pride and the Hampton Pirates meet Thursday in college basketball action from Hampton Convocation Center. Hofstra is 8-7 on the year so far. The Pride lost to NC A&T in their last game. As for Hampton, they’re 3-11 after a loss to UNC Wilmington on Saturday. Check back all season long for free college basketball picks at Sports Chat Place.

Hofstra went 6-4 over their first 10 games this year, losing to Saint Mary’s, Middle Tennessee, George Mason and Purdue. The Pride have since gone 2-3 with losses to UMass, South Florida and NC A&T.

Back on Saturday versus NC A&T, the Pride took a 40-35 advantage into the second half. Hofstra was outscored 46-39 from there and lost 81-79. Tyler Thomas led the team on 19 points, and Aaron Estrada managed 18 points.

Over on the Hampton side, they started out at 3-6 with wins over Regent VA, Howard and Loyola MD. Since then it’s been losses to Bowling Green, Norfolk State, Texas Southern, Charleston and UNC Wilmington.

In the UNC Wilmington game on Saturday, the Pirates were down by 10 points at halftime. Hampton posted  40-33 deficit in the second for an 82-65 loss. Both Russell Dean and Marquis Godwin posted 16 points to lead the team.

PICK: I’ll probably stick with Hofstra. Also probably staying away, though. There’s not much to get excited about here. Hofstra is coming off a loss to a middling NC A&T team, but the good news is that the Pride have kept up the scoring lately. Hofstra has 70 or more points in four straight games, going 2-2 in that time. As for Hampton, outside of a few bright spots it’s been a tough campaign so far. If Hofstra plays to their capabilities I think they’ll cover in this one.
