The Presbyterian Blue Hose and the Hampton Pirates meet in college basketball action from the Hampton Convocation Center on Monday night.
The Presbyterian Blue Hose will look to build on a 78-70 win over Radford in their last game. Rayshon Harrison leads the Blue Hose in scoring with 16.9 PPG and 2.7 APG while Winston Hill has 11 PPG with a team-high 6.7 RPG as the only other double-digit scorer for Presbyterian up to this point in the season as well as the Blue Hose’s top rebounder. Trevon Reddish-Rhone also has 9 PPG with 4 RPG and a team-high 3 APG as well this season. As a team, Presbyterian is averaging 67.1 PPG on 42.1% shooting from the field, 28.8% from three and 68% from the foul line while allowing 66.6 PPG on 44.9% shooting from the field and 37.7% from three this season.
The Hampton Pirates will attempt to bounce back after a 69-57 loss to Winthrop last time out. Najee Garvin leads the Pirates in scoring and rebounding with 15.8 PPG and 6 RPG while Russell Dean has 13.6 PPG with 3.8 RPG and a team-high 3.3 APG to lead the Pirates in assists and make up the other half of the duo of double-digit scorers for Hampton so far this season. As a team, Hampton is averaging 62.3 PPG on 38.7% shooting from the field, 27.7% from three and 69.6% from the foul line while allowing 67.6 PPG on 41.3% shooting from the field and 28.1% from three this season.
Presbyterian is 5-2 ATS in their last 7 games overall and 9-1 ATS in their last 10 Monday games while the under is 11-4 in their last 15 games following a win. Hampton is 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games overall and 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games against a team with a losing record while the under is 5-1 in their last 6 home games against a team with a road winning percentage below .400.
I get the case to be made for Hampton as a home underdog, but the reality here is that the Pirates have had defensive issues more often than not and at times, the offense has failed the team as well. Presbyterian hasn’t been a world-beater, but they’ve kept games close as an underdog and have been winning games a lot more often than the Pirates as well lately. I’ll side with the Blue Hose laying the points in this one.
