The UMBC Retrievers will travel to Chase Arena to take on the Hartford Hawks this Wednesday night in College Basketball action.

The UMBC Retrievers dropped to 13-13 on the season after being defeated by the Vermont Catamounts, 86-59, this past Saturday. UMBC had no answers for Vermont on either end of the court and could not fight back after going into halftime trailing by a 46-27 margin. UMBC shot 39.7% from the field & 36.8% from beyond the arc while allowing Vermont to shoot 54.1% from the field & 38.7% from beyond the arc. Leading the way for the Retrievers was Keondre Kennedy who had 13 points, 4 rebounds, 1 assist, & 1 steal.

On the season, UMBC is averaging 72.3 ppg on 43.8% shooting from the field. The Retrievers are averaging 9.1 three-pointers per game on 36.7% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, UMBC has been led by Keondre Kennedy (14.8 ppg, 5.0 rpg, 2.1 apg), L.J. Owens (10.8 ppg, 2.8 rpg, 1.5 apg), Darnell Rogers (10.8 ppg, 1.9 rpg, 4.0 apg), & Nathan Johnson (6.3 ppg, 3.7 rpg).

Defensively, UMBC is allowing their opponents to average 71.1 ppg on 45.3% shooting from the field. The Retrievers have a rebound margin of -3.1 and a turnover margin of 0.6.

The Hartford Hawks improved to 9-17 on the season after defeating the Stony Brook Seawolves, 74-70, this past Sunday. Hartford trailed by a 35-29 margin at halftime, however, the Hawks were outstanding offensively in the 2nd half against Stony Brook and was able to hold off the Seawolves late after taking a 61-50 lead with 3:14 left in regulation. Hartford shot 40.8% from the field & 33.3% from beyond the arc while allowing Stony Brook to shoot 36.1% from the field & 30.8% from beyond the arc. Leading the way for the Hawks was Moses Flowers who had 24 points, 9 rebounds, 1 assist, & 1 block.

On the season, Hartford is averaging 69.4 ppg on 45.3% shooting from the field. The Hawks are averaging 9.1 three-pointers per game on 36.4% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Hartford has been led by Austin Williams (17.4 ppg, 5.3 rpg, 3.3 apg, 1.3 spg), Moses Flowers (14.5 ppg, 6.4 rpg, 1.8 apg, 1.6 spg), Hunter Marks (11.7 ppg, 4.4 rpg, 2.2 apg, 1.3 bpg), & David Scriver (9.1 ppg, 4.0 rpg). Hartford will be without Hunter Marks who is out the remainder of the season due to an undisclosed injury.

Defensively, Hartford is allowing their opponents to average 72.6 ppg on 45.1% shooting from the field. The Hawks have a rebound margin of -3.0 and a turnover margin of -0.8.

The Retrievers are 2-8 ATS in their last 10 road games vs. a team with a winning home record & 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games overall. The Hawks are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 home games & 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games overall.

UMBC has been led by their offense this season, however, the Retrievers have struggled on the defensive end as UMBC comes into this game ranked just 233rd in scoring defense, 291st in defensive FG%, & 303rd in rebound margin. Hartford doesn’t put up a bunch of points, however, the Hawks have shot the ball well this season as they come into this game ranked 108th in FG%, 33rd in three-pointers made per game, & 56th in 3P-FG%. UMBC was able to defeat Hartford by a 68-64 margin a couple of weeks ago, however, the Retrieves have struggled on the road this season and as I think Hartford, who has won 4 of their last 5 games which includes a home victory vs. Vermont, will have plenty of success offensively in this one, I’m taking the Hawks to cover this home spread. Good Luck!
