The TCU Horned Frogs and the Hawaii Rainbow Warriors meet Sunday in college basketball action from Stan Sheriff Center. TCU is coming off a loss to Nevada on Friday that dropped the Frogs to 9-2 overall. As for Hawaii, they’re 8-3 this year following a loss to Georgia Tech in their last appearance. TCU Horned Frogs
The Frogs started out their year with a nice seven-game win streak, taking out Southern, Omaha, UTRGV, MS Valley State, Alcorn State, Houston Christian and Georgetown. After a loss to Clemson, TCU would beat Arizona State and Old Dominion in the next pair before falling to Nevada.
In the Friday game versus Nevada, the Frogs took a 48-36 deficit into the locker room. TCU didn’t end up getting any closer in that one, trailing 40-39 in the second for an 88-75 defeat. Leading team scorer Emanuel Miller put up 24 points with eight rebounds and two assists in the losing effort.
Hawaii Rainbow Warriors
Over on the Hawaii side, they were able to beat Hawaii Hilo, Niagara, Northern Arizona, UTRGV and San Diego in their first five games before falling to Utah. The Warriors have gone 3-2 since then with wins over Central Arkansas, Hawaii Pacific and Portland mixed with losses to Nevada and Georgia Tech.
Matched up against Georgia Tech in the Friday outing, the Warriors were drilled 43-27 in the first half. Hawaii recovered a bit in the second on a 41-30 run but still lost 73-68 in a tough outcome. JoVon McClanahan was the top scorer on the team with 19 points and eight assists.
ANDREW’S FREE TCU VS HAWAII PREDICTION
I’ll probably just stay with TCU here. The Frogs are coming off a pretty flat effort versus a good Nevada team though, and they’ll need a bounce-back outing on Sunday. TCU shot just 21.4 percent from 3-point range in their latest defeat and allowed 52 percent shooting from the field on the other side. The good news is that the Frogs have scored well this year with 75 or more points in all but one game (66 versus Clemson).
As for Hawaii, I can see them hanging around on Sunday if they play well. The Warriors haven’t reached 70 points for three straight games though, so I’m not sure they’ll have the legs to eke out a cover. Should be an interesting matchup but I’m leaning toward TCU cover-wise.
