The Hampton Pirates and the High Point Panthers meet Saturday in college basketball action from Quebin Center. Hampton is 9-17 on the year so far. The Pirates beat Campbell in their last game. As for High Point, they’re currently 12-17 and fresh off a win over North Carolina A&T. Check back all season long for free college basketball picks at Sports Chat Place.

Hampton started out the year at 4-6 through 10 games but they haven’t been able to win consecutive games since then. The Pirates are 2-3 in their last five games with losses to UNC Asheville, Radford and Longwood alongside wins over NC A&T and Campbell.

In the Campbell matchup on Wednesday, the Pirates had a 37-29 lead going into halftime. Hampton had to hang on after a 31-37 second half but still won 68-66. Marquis Godwin led the team on his 23 points and seven rebounds.

Over on the High Point side, they’ve been pretty inconsistent this season as well and have only been able to win consecutive games three times so far. After a losing streak to Campbell, Longwood (twice) and Radford, the Panthers managed a win over NC A&T.

Matched up against North Carolina A&T on Wednesday, the Panthers posted 37 points in the first half and 41 more in the second during a 78-58 win. John-Michael Wright led the way on 18 points with four boards and four assists.

High Point is 13-5 ATS in their last 18 Saturday games and 8-3 ATS in their last 11 overall. The over is 5-2 in the Panthers’ last seven overall.
Meanwhile, the Pirates are 5-2 ATS in their last seven road games and 5-2 ATS in their last seven Saturday games. The over is 7-3 in Hampton’s last 10 overall.

PICK: I’m going to take a stab on Hampton. I could probably go either way on this one, though; these teams are pretty evenly matched and it should be another close matchup. That said, Hampton has hit 68 or more points in three straight games, which is good news after a four-game scoring lull. The last time these teams met up back on January 22, Hampton pulled off a 68-64 overtime victory. This rematch looks to be tight the whole way as well, and I like the Pirates to eke out a cover.
