Hofstra vs Hampton Pick – Basketball Predictions & Odds 2/16/23

The Hampton Pirates and the Hofstra Pride meet Thursday in college basketball action from Hofstra Arena. Hampton is currently 6-21 on the year. The Pirates lost to Elon in their last game. Hampton Pirates 

Hampton got off to a rough start this year, winning just four of their first 20 games. The Pirates have since gone 2-5 with losses to Stony Brook, Norfolk State, Towson, Charleston and Elon alongside wins over Delaware and William & Mary. 

In the Elon matchup on Monday, the Pirates were down 42-31 by the break. Hampton hit a 37-28 run in the second half but couldn’t catch up in a 70-68 loss. Both Marquis Godwin and Jordan Nesbitt scored 15 points apiece to lead the team. 

Hofstra Pride

Over on the Hofstra side, it’s been a pretty successful season so far. After a 12-8 start, the Pride have since beaten UNC Wilmington, Elon, Charleston, Towson, Stony Brook, Northeastern, Monmouth and Drexel in succession. 

In the Drexel matchup, the Pride were up 30-22 going into the second half. Hofstra hit a 36-30 advantage from there and cruised to a win 66-52. Aaron Estrada was the top team scorer on 22 points and five rebounds with five assists. 

ANDREW’S FREE PICK 

I’m going to stick with Hofstra in this one. The line’s probably too thick to mess with, though. The Pride are on a tear right now and playing some pretty darn good basketball over this eight-game win streak. Hofstra has scored 70 or more points in seven of those eight, and 66 or more in all of them. These teams last met back on January 5 at Hampton Convocation Center. Hofstra jumped out to a 39-23 halftime edge in that one and ended up with a 67-51 win. I like the Pride to post another dominant effort here and bag the cover in the home rematch.
