The Northeastern Huskies and the Hofstra Pride meet in college basketball action from the Mack Sports Complex on Saturday afternoon.
The Northeastern Huskies will look to rebound from a 67-51 loss at the hands of Drexel last time out. Jahmyl Telfort leads the Huskies in scoring with 12.6 PPG while Shaquille Walters has 11.5 PPG with 4.2 RPG and a team-high 2.6 APG to lead the Huskies in assists. Nikola Djogo has 11.8 PPG with 5.3 RPG and Chris Doherty’s got 11 PPG with a team-high 9.2 RPG to lead the Huskies on the glass and to cap off the group of double-digit scorers for Northeastern up to this point in the year. As a team, Northeastern is averaging 64.1 PPG on 43.7% shooting from the field, 32.4% from three and 73% from the foul line while allowing 70.3 PPG on 46.5% shooting from the field and 35.5% from three this season.
The Hofstra Pride will hope to build on a 97-64 win over Elon in their last game. Aaron Estrada leads the Pride in scoring and assists with 18.7 PPG and 4.9 APG with 5.5 RPG while Zach Cooks is right behind with 13.4 PPG with 3.4 APG. Jalen Ray has 13.4 PPG with 3.4 RPG and Darlinstone Dubar has 12.2 PPG with 5 RPG and Omar Silverio has 10.7 PPG as well to cap off the group of double-digit scorers for Hofstra so far this season. Abayomi Iyola also has 7.6 PPG with 7.9 RPG to lead the Pride on the glass up to this point in the season. As a team, Hofstra is averaging 78.3 PPG on 47% shooting from the field, 34.6% from three and 80.3% from the foul line while allowing 71.7 PPG on 44.5% shooting from the field and 36.6% from three this season.
Northeastern is 0-5 ATS in their last 5 road games and 1-8 ATS in their last 9 games against a team with a winning record while the under is 6-0 in their last 6 games as an underdog. Hofstra is 0-4 ATS in their last 4 home games and 5-11 ATS in their last 16 games against a team with a losing record while the over is 4-1 in their last 5 games as a favorite.
I get the reasoning for looking at underdogs in most spots, but Northeastern’s gone from a preseason favorite to be in the running in the CAA to falling off of a cliff and being downright unbackable, especially on the road. I look for Hofstra to be too much here and to get themselves a big win here so give me Hofstra in a beatdown.
