William & Mary Tribe
William & Mary posted a rough 9-15 run over their first 24 outings this year. The Tribe finished off the regular season on a 3-4 run, taking losses to UNC Wilmington, Elon, Stony Brook and Northeastern alongside wins versus Towson, Elon and Monmouth.
In Saturday’s tournament game rematch versus Elon, the Tribe came into the second half with a 34-27 edge. William & Mary rolled through a 39-24 advantage from there and took the victory 73-51. Leading scorer Miguel Ayesa put up 23 points with two rebounds.
Hofstra Pride
Over on the Hofstra side, they started out the year on a 16-8 run through their first 24 games. The Pride finished off the year with wins over Stony Brook, Northeastern, Monmouth, Drexel, Hampton, Stony Brook again and Northeastern again.
In last Saturday’s rematch versus Northeastern, the Pride didn’t have much trouble. Hofstra jumped out to a 38-25 halftime lead and cruised to an 84-52 victory from there. Tops in scoring was Tyler Thomas with 23 points and six rebounds.
ANDREW’S FREE PICK
I’ll probably stick with Hofstra in this one. So long as the Pride don’t show any rust from their eight-day layoff, that is. Hofstra is playing very well during this 11-game win streak. They’ve hit 66 or more points in each of those outings and 70 or more in nine of them. These teams last met back on January 7 at Kaplan Arena. The Pride took a 75-62 victory in that one, posting a 38-31 run in the second half to finish it off. William & Mary has won three straight with 73 or more points scored in each outing so this one should be a fairly high-scoring finish as well. That said I like the Pride a little better cover-wise, however the line’s probably thick enough to make a good case for the Tribe.
