Navy started off the year on a nice 6-2 run with wins over Virginia, Radford, Furman, Washington MD, Mount St. Mary’s and William & Mary. Since then it’s been a 1-2 stretch with losses to George Mason and Towson.
In the Towson game, Navy was drilled 40-25 in the first half and eventually stumbled to a 69-52 defeat. Leading team scorer Jaylen Walker put up 13 points, and Greg Summers doubled up on 12 points and 10 rebounds.
Over on the Holy Cross side, they began the year at 2-4 with victories versus Regis MA and Mount St. Vincent. It’s been a six-game skid since with losses to New Hampshire, Central CT State, La Salle, Fairfield, Siena and Harvard.
Matched up against Harvard on December 19, the Crusaders posted a tepid 24-point first half on the way to a 62-54 loss. Kyrell Luc led the way on 17 points, and Caleb Kenney snagged a double-double with 10 points and 11 boards.
The Crusaders are 11-28 ATS in their last 39 at home and 7-20 ATS in their last 27 after an ATS win. Holy Cross is 8-20 ATS in their last 28 Saturday games.
Meanwhile, the Midshipmen are 23-9 ATS in their last 32 road games and 23-8 ATS in the last 31 overall. Navy is 6-1 ATS in their last seven Saturday games.
PICK: I’m probably staying with Navy here. The Midshipmen haven’t exactly been lighting it up on the scoreboard lately, with 67 or fewer points in four of their last five games. Still, Navy can score pretty well when the matchup is right, and they should find plenty of opportunities for baskets in this one.
As for Holy Cross, they haven’t hit 60 points in any of their last three and I don’t see them posting a big total here either. It probably won’t be the prettiest game but I think Navy has this one under control cover-wise.
