New Orleans stumbled to a 4-8 start this year with wins over Spring Hill, Central AR, VMI and Belhaven. Since then the Privateers have hit a win streak over Houston Baptist, Northwestern State, Dillard, Nicholls, SE Louisiana and Northwestern State again.
In the rematch versus Northwestern State on Saturday, the Privateers scored 44 points in the first half and 41 more from there in an 85-77 win. Tops in scoring was Derek St. Hilaire with 29 points, two rebounds and four assists.
Over on the Houston Baptist side, their first 10 games began on a spotty 4-6 run. The Huskies would then hit a losing streak versus SE Louisiana, New Orleans, Incarnate Word and McNeese before notching wins over Incarnate Word and Texas A&M-CC.
In the Texas A&M-CC matchup, the Huskies posted a 47-42 second-half run on the way to a 77-71 victory. Leading the scoring was Darius Lee with 25 points, and Sam Hofman managed a double-double on 18 points and 13 boards.
The Huskies are 8-23-1 ATS in the last 32 at home and 6-14 ATS in their last 20 overall. The over is 4-0 in Houston Baptist’s last four at home.
Meanwhile, the Privateers are 0-5 ATS in their last five road games and 3-1-1 ATS in their last five overall. The over is 48-21-2 in New Orleans’ last 71 overall.
PICK: I’m going to stick with New Orleans here. The Privateers have been on a nice scoring run over this 7-1 streak, hitting 78 or more points in each game. The last time these teams met up back on January 7, new Orleans secured an 81-65 victory. The Privateers shot 50.9 percent from the floor in that one with 37 rebounds and 11 team assists. If New Orleans can keep that offense going in this rematch I think they’ll be fine on a cover.
