Texas A&M-Commerce posted a 4-8 run over their first 12 games, beating only Air Force, Eastern Kentucky, ABU and Hawaii along the way. The Lions are 2-3 since then with wins over Incarnate Word and McNeese State.

In the McNeese State matchup on Saturday, the Lions scored 34 points in the first half, 38 in the second and 10 in overtime for an 82-80 victory. Leading scorer Demarcus Demonia posted 32 points and eight rebounds.

Over on the Houston Christian side, they were 3-9 after 12 games with wins over Champion Christian, SW Adventist and UMFK. The Huskies are 1-3 since then with losses to Texas Tech, Southeastern Louisiana and New Orleans.

Matched up against New Orleans on Saturday, the Huskies were drilled 43-16 in the first half. Houston Christian managed 43 points in the second half during an 82-59 blowout. Andrew King was tops on 15 points with nine rebounds.

PICK: I’m going to stay with Texas A&M-Commerce. Granted, there’s not much to get excited about with this matchup. That said it should be a reasonably competitive game. The Lions have been on a pretty solid scoring run lately. They’ve hit 72 or more in three of their last four games and 82 or more in two of their last three. Houston Christian has scored 59 points in each of their last two outings so it’ll probably be tough for the Huskies to keep pace. This should be the Lions’ cover to take.
