The Kansas State Wildcats and the Houston Cougars meet Saturday in college basketball action from Hofheinz Pavilion. Here’s a Houston vs Kansas State prediction. We will look at this from a betting perspective and determine the best Houston vs Kansas State pick.
Kansas State Wildcats Betting Preview
Kansas State hit a choppy 5-4 record to start the season, but then got better on a four-game win streak in December. The Wildcats would win just one of their next 10 games though, falling to BYU, Arizona, Arizona State, UCF, Oklahoma State, Kansas, West Virginia, Iowa State and TCU otherwise (with a lone win over Utah) during that time. In the first 23 games that gave the Wildcats a 10-13 record.
In game 24 versus Cincinnati on Wednesday, Kansas State was demolished in the first half on a 53-31 deficit. The Wildcats didn’t end up getting any closer in the second half on a 38-31 run and took the blowout loss at home 91-62 as the game came to an end. Tops in scoring was PJ Haggerty, the only player on the team in double-digits with 24 points, three rebounds and two assists.
Houston Cougars Betting Preview
Over on the Cougars’ side, they won six of their first seven games this year. Houston then took out Notre Dame, Florida State, Jackson State, New Orleans, Arkansas, Middle Tennessee, Cincinnati, Texas Tech, Baylor, West Virginia and Arizona State before a loss to Texas Tech. Since then it’s been wins over TCU, Cincinnati, UCF, BYU and Utah in succession for a 22-2 overall record this year.
Matched up against Utah on Tuesday the Cougars were sitting in the locker room with a pretty comfortable 34-25 edge. Houston kept it going in the second half on a 32-27 run and took the win in the end 66-52 on the road. The only player to reach double-figures however, was Emanuel Sharp with 27 points, three rebounds and one assist in 30 minutes of action during the victory.

Houston vs Kansas State Prediction
I’ll lean toward Houston I suppose. The Cougars managed to shoot a reasonable 43.3 percent from the field in their latest win over Utah, but made only half their free throws (5-of-10) and got outscored in the paint 34-28. The rebounding (a 29-23 advantage) was good though, and Houston committed just five turnovers in the road victory. That makes five straight wins for the Cougars, and they’ve scored 76 or more points in four of those.
As for Kansas State, they got beaten up pretty badly at Bramlage this week by Cincinnati, shooting just 40.3 percent from the field. The Wildcats added 14 turnovers and a 33-26 rebounding deficit along with just nine free throws (making six). Kansas State has lost five games in a row, scoring fewer than 63 points in four of them. This is going to be a tough matchup, especially on the road.
