Howard Bison
The Bison have had a pretty wild year. Howard started out on a rough 9-14 run through their first 23 games, then hit a 6-2 stretch to close out the year. The only losses in that time were to South Carolina State and Norfolk State. The Bison bagged a tournament win over Morgan State on Thursday as well.
In their Friday tourney game versus Norfolk State, Howard was able to pull off the upset win to keep it going. The Bison were down 37-31 going into the second half, then stormed back on a 49-37 run for an 80-74 victory in the end. Marcus Dockery topped the team on 19 points with three rebounds in the winning effort.

Delaware State Hornets
Over on the Hornets’ side, they were a rough 10-9 in late January. Delaware State got even worse from there, closing on a 3-8 run. Those losses came versus South Carolina State, NC Central, Norfolk State, Howard and MD-Eastern Shore. Thursday’s matchup was a victory 71-58 over South Carolina State, however.
On Friday in the tournament game versus NC Central, the Hornets kept their season going. Following a 27-26 edge in the first half, Delaware State finished on a 44-32 run and took the victory 71-58. Deywilk Tavarez was the team’s top performer on 20 points with five rebounds and three assists.

I’ll just stay with Howard here. The Bison had a great second half in the Norfolk State game, and ended up playing very well on offense. Howard hit 53.5 percent from the field with 52.4 percent (11-of-21) from 3-point range and 23-of-27 (85.2 percent) from the line. The 15 turnovers didn’t help, but otherwise it was a very well-rounded effort.
These teams last saw each other on March 4 in an 85-66 home win for the Bison. Howard shot a nice 52.7 percent from the field in that one with 18-of-22 (81.8 percent) from the line. It was something of a sloppy game overall though, with 27 total turnovers (14 from the Bison). We should have a pretty competitive game if both teams are on, but I like Howard to dictate the pace in the end.
