The Montana Grizzlies and the Idaho State Bengals meet Saturday in college basketball action from Reed Gym.
Montana enters this one at 10-12 so far. As for the Bengals, they’re 12-8 this year. This will be a rematch of Thursday’s game featuring these teams. In that one, the Grizzlies bagged a six-point victory. Check back all season long for free college basketball picks at Sports Chat Place.
Montana has hovered around the .500 mark for most of the season, but hasn’t really been able to get over the proverbial hump. The Grizzlies had a three-game losing streak going versus Weber State and Eastern Washington prior to the Thursday victory over the Bengals.
In the 64-58 win over Idaho State on Thursday, Montana’s Josh Bannan put up 19 points with 13 rebounds and one assist. Brandon Whitney added 14 points with one rebound and one assist, and Cameron Parker chipped in 10 points with six assists.
Over on the Idaho State side, they opened the year at 0-4 but then were able to crawl their way back over .500 during the next couple of months. The Bengals had a four-game winning streak going prior to the Thursday loss to Montana.
In the loss to the Grizzlies on Thursday, Idaho State’s only double-digit scorer was Austin Smellie with 10 points, one assist and five rebounds. Malik Porter chipped in with nine points, four rebounds and one assist in 19 minutes as well.
The Bengals are 16-33-2 ATS in their last 51 home games and 1-6-1 ATS in their last eight Saturday games. Idaho State is 2-5 ATS in their last seven games overall and the under is 5-0 in their last five overall.
Meanwhile, the Grizzlies are 0-9 ATS in the last nine Saturday games and 6-15 ATS in their last 21 overall. Montana is 3-11 ATS in their last 14 as a favorite and the over is 14-5 in their last 19 Saturday games.
PICK: I’m going to take Idaho State here, but probably staying away. The Bengals shot a tepid 35.2 percent from the field in the Thursday game, but did out-rebound the Grizzlies 36-33 and had fewer turnovers (10-13). The Bengals had a slow first half with 23 points but got it moving after the break. I like a better performance from Idaho State in this rematch.
