Illinois vs Ohio State Pick – Basketball Predictions & Odds 1/24/23

The Ohio State Buckeyes and the Illinois Fighting Illini meet Tuesday in college basketball action from State Farm Center. Ohio State comes into this one at 11-8 so far. The Buckeyes beat Iowa in their last game. As for Illinois, they’re 13-6 so far following a loss to Indiana last Thursday. Ohio State Buckeyes 

Ohio State took losses to San Diego State, Duke, North Carolina and Purdue over their first 14 games this year. The Buckeyes have since gone 1-4 with losses to Maryland, Minnesota, Rutgers and Nebraska. 

In the Iowa matchup back on Saturday, the Buckeyes went into the break up 37-35. Ohio State posted a 56-42 run in the second half for a 93-77 win. Tops in scoring was Brice Sensabaugh with 27 points and five rebounds. 

Illinois Fighting Illini 

Over on the Illinois side, they were 9-5 after 14 games with losses to Virginia, Maryland, Penn State, Missouri and Northwestern. The Illini have gone 4-1 since then with wins over Wisconsin, Nebraska, Michigan State and Minnesota. 

Illinois’ win streak halted on Thursday versus Indiana. The Illini were down by 10 points at halftime and then took a 37-32 second-half deficit for an 80-65 loss. Leading the way in scoring was Terrence Shannon with 26 points. 

ANDREW’S FREE PICK 

I’ll take a stab on Illinois. Probably not going near it, though; you could make a good case either way in this matchup and it should be a competitive game. Illinois didn’t look great at home versus Indiana in their last game, but they’d hit 75 or more points in every installment of that recent four-game win streak. As for Ohio State, they bounced back from their four-game losing streak with a nice win over a pretty decent Iowa team on Saturday. This one could go a lot of different ways, but cover-wise I’m sticking with Illinois. Should be a fun one.
