Illinois State Redbirds
Illinois State managed a sketchy 8-12 run over their first 20 games of the year. The Redbirds continued to stumble on a 2-5 stretch over their next seven outings, falling to Valparaiso, Bradley, Belmont, Bradley again and Valparaiso again in that time.
In the Murray State game on Wednesday, Illinois State was down by a 40-35 margin at halftime. The Redbirds made a second-half run with 40 points but still lost 76-75. Seneca Knight led the way on 22 points and eight rebounds.
Indiana State Sycamores
Over on the Indiana State side, they managed to go 13-7 over their first 20 outings this season. The Sycamores would then go 5-2 over the next seven with wins over Northern Iowa, Evansville, Murray State, Valparaiso and Northern Iowa again.
Matched up against UIC on Wednesday, the Sycamores jumped out to a 43-21 advantage by halftime. Indiana State hit a 39-36 deficit in the second for a 79-60 victory. Courvoisier McCauley was the top team scorer on 26 points.

I’m probably going to stick with Indiana State. The line’s pretty thick though, so I could probably go either way. The Sycamores are riding a nice six-game win streak right now, scoring 79 or more points in each of those outings. These teams last met back on January 4 at Redbird Arena. Indiana State ended up winning that one 76-67 after a dominant 47-29 first-half run. Illinois State has hit 75 or more points in three of their last four games so this one may not be so easy. That said, I still think Indiana State takes the eventual cover.
