Murray State Racers

The Racers got off to an 8-10 start this year, then hit a 1-5 run in late January. Murray State has gone .500 over the last six games, though. The wins in that time were over Evansville, Murray State and Valparaiso. The losses otherwise were to Drake, Southern Illinois and Belmont.

In the Belmont game on Wednesday, the Racers were down by eight points going into the second half. Murray State was outscored 45-31 the rest of the way and lost 83-61 in the end. Leading team scorer Rob Perry put up 14 points and eight rebounds in the defeat.

Indiana State Sycamores

Over on the Sycamores’ side, they managed to lose just three of their first 25 games. Those defeats came versus Alabama, Michigan State and Drake. Indiana State would lose to Illinois State and Southern Illinois before wins over Valparaiso, UIC and Evansville in the next three.

Matched up against Evansville on Wednesday, the Sycamores were up 40-31 at the break. Indiana State hit a 45-36 run the rest of the way and took the victory 85-67 to keep their streak going. Tops in scoring was Robbie Avila with 35 points and eight rebounds alongside five assists.

I’ll stick with Indiana State. The Sycamores are playing well these days and coming off another solid road win over Evansville. Indiana State hit 50.8 percent from the field in that one with a 39-30 rebounding edge and 25 team assists in a well-rounded effort. During this three-game wins streak the Sycamores have hit 83 or more points in each outing.

Back on January 21 when these teams last met, Indiana State took a 72-63 road victory. In that one the Sycamores shot 46.4 percent from the field with 39 rebounds but also had 16 turnovers. Indiana State needs to clean up the mistakes a little better in the rematch but they should be fine cover-wise if all goes well.
