The Maryland Terrapins and the Indiana Hoosiers meet Friday in college basketball action from Bloomington Assembly Hall. Maryland is sitting on a three-game win streak, taking out Rider in their last outing to move to 4-3 overall. As for Indiana, they’re 5-1 following a win versus Harvard on Sunday. Let’s get into our Maryland vs. Indiana prediction.

Maryland Terrapins 

Maryland beat Mount St. Mary’s to open the season but then hit a losing streak versus Davidson, UAB and Villanova. The Terrapins recovered with wins over UMBC and South Alabama in the next pair, though. In the 68-55 victory over the Jaguars, Maryland shot a rough 5-of-31 (16.1 percent) from 3-point range but had a 42-26 rebounding advantage. 

In their latest win over Rider, the Terrapins didn’t have too many issues. Maryland jumped out to a 54-27 halftime edge and cruised on 49 more points in a 103-76 win. Tops in scoring were Julian Reese (12 rebounds) and Jahmir Young, each with 22 points to lead the way.

Indiana Hoosiers 

Over on the Hoosiers’ side, their year kicked off with a three-game win streak featuring victories over Florida Gulf Coast, Army, and Wright State. Indiana was drilled by UConn 77-57 in their only loss so far, then came back for a 74-66 win over Louisville. The Hoosiers beat the Cardinals thanks to 45.3 percent shooting from the field (with a rough 1-of-11 from outside). 

Indiana was in trouble during their last matchup versus a tricky Harvard team, taking a 40-39 deficit into halftime. The Hoosiers were able to notch 50 points in the second half however, and took the eventual win 89-76. Kel’el Ware was the high man in the victory effort with 28 points, eight rebounds, and three steals. 

INDIANA VS MARYLAND PREDICTION 

I’ll probably stick with Indiana. The Hoosiers recovered well in the second half during their last showing versus Harvard, eventually shooting 57.1 percent from the field. The rebounding was pretty solid in that one (a 34-26 advantage), but the 3-point shooting was again sketchy with just four of 15 attempts made (26.7 percent). That said, Indiana is scoring well so far with 69 or more points in all five of their wins. 

As for Maryland, they looked better from 3-point range (40 percent) and the field (57.9 percent) against an overmatched Rider team in their last outing. Those numbers probably won’t translate here, however. I like the Terrapins to hang around in the first half before Indiana outmuscles them in a Hoosiers cover.
