Penn State Nittany Lions
The Lions managed a sketchy 7-7 run over their first 14 games, losing to Texas A&M, Butler, VCU, Bucknell, Maryland, Georgia Tech and Michigan State in that time. Penn State went 2-4 over the next six games with losses to Northwestern, Purdue, Ohio State and Minnesota in that time.
In Wednesday’s matchup with Rutgers, the Nittany Lions were ahead by only two points at the break. Penn State hit a nice 35-22 run from there though, powering out the 61-46 win. Leading the way was Ace Baldwin with 15 points, seven assists, five steals and five rebounds.
Indiana Hoosiers
Over on the Hoosiers’ side, they got off to a nice 10-3 start with losses to only UConn, Auburn and Kansas. Indiana has gone just 3-5 in their last eight though, with losses to Nebraska, Rutgers, Purdue, Wisconsin and Illinois alongside wins over Minnesota and Iowa.
In the Iowa game on Tuesday, the Hoosiers went into the locker room with a 39-28 edge. Indiana was outscored 40-35 from there but held on for the win 74-68. Leading team scorer Kel’el Ware finished with 23 points and 10 rebounds for a double-double in the victory.
ANDREW’S FREE PENN STATE VS INDIANA PREDICTION
I’m staying with Indiana. The Hoosiers took down a pretty good Iowa team in their last matchup, hitting 45.6 percent from the field with a 45-32 rebounding edge and 18 team assists. Indiana had some tough matchups during their recent three-game losing streak (Purdue, Wisconsin and Illinois), however Penn State should be a much more manageable foe.
Speaking of the Nittany Lions, they took out a cold-shooting Rutgers team on Wednesday however they haven’t been so great on defense lately otherwise. I don’t think Penn State will quite be able to keep a cover pace here.
