The Niagara Purple Eagles and the Iona Gaels meet Sunday in college basketball action from Hynes Athletic Center. Niagara sits at 7-7 on the season. The Eagles beat Canisius in their last outing. As for Iona, they’re 13-3 so far and coming off a win over Manhattan. Check back all season long for free college basketball picks at Sports Chat Place.

Niagara posted a 3-6 run over their first nine games. The only wins in that stretch were over SIU Edwardsville, Youngstown State and Colgate. It’s been a 4-1 run for the Eagles in their last five, however; they’ve beaten Buffalo State, Albany, Quinnipiac and Canisius in that time.

In the Canisius game, the Eagles were down 31-29 at the break. Niagara stormed back on a 39-27 run in the second half for a 68-58 win. Marcus Hammond led the team on 28 points and five rebounds, while Jordan Cintron put up 14 points and 11 boards.

Over on the Iona side, their first 14 games featured an 11-3 run. The losses in that time came versus Belmont, Kansas and Saint Louis. Over the last two games since then, the Gaels have beaten Fairfield and Manhattan.

Matched up against Manhattan, the Gaels posted 45 points in the first half and 43 more from there in an 88-76 win. Tyson Jolly was the high scorer with 16 points and six assists. Nelly Junior Joseph chipped in 13 points and two rebounds as well.

The Gaels are 9-3 ATS in their last 12 at home and 3-8 ATS in the last 11 Sunday games. Iona is 20-8-1 ATS in their last 29 overall.

Meanwhile, the Eagles are 7-3 ATS in their last 10 road games and 8-3 ATS in their last 11 Sunday games. The over is 5-1 in Niagara’s last six Sunday games.

PICK: I’m probably sticking with Iona. The Gaels posted another solid win against Manhattan in their last game. The field goal percentage was great at 61.2, and Iona went 7-of-15 (46.7 percent) on 3-pointers. Still, there’s room for improvement. The Gaels were out-rebounded 39-38 and gave away 15 turnovers.

As for Niagara, they may have some trouble keeping up in this one. The Eagles have been at 68 points or below in five of their last eight games. If Iona gets going on offense early I think the Gaels will be fine on a cover.
