Iowa State vs McNeese State 12/11/22 College Basketball Picks, Predictions, Odds

The McNeese State Cowboys and the Iowa State Cyclones meet Sunday in college basketball action from Hilton Coliseum. McNeese State comes into this game at 3-6 overall. The Cowboys beat Northern Iowa in their last game. As for Iowa State, they’re sitting at 7-2 and coming off a loss to Iowa. McNeese State went 1-3 over their first four games, losing to Tulane, Western Carolina and Lindenwood. The Cowboys are 2-3 since then, losing to Baylor, TN-Martin and Tennessee with wins over Lamar and Northern Iowa. 

In the Northern Iowa matchup back on Friday, the Cowboys were up 27-23 by the break. McNeese State put up a 26-25 deficit the rest of the way but still won 52-49. Leading scorer Roberts Berze posted 12 points in 15 minutes of work. 

Over on the Iowa State side, they went 7-1 over their first eight games with wins over IUPUI, NC A&T, Milwaukee, Villanova, North Carolina, North Dakota and St. John’s. The Cyclones have otherwise lost to UConn and Iowa. 

In the Iowa game on Thursday, the Cyclones struggled mightily in the first half with a 40-20 deficit. Iowa State scored 36 from there in a 75-56 defeat. Robert Jones doubled up on 11 points with 10 rebounds and two assists in the loss. 

PICK: I’m probably staying with Iowa State here. The line is too thick to mess with, though. The Cyclones are coming off a rough outing versus rival Iowa. Iowa State ended up shooting 40.7 percent from the floor with just 3-of-22 (13.6 percent) from 3-point range and a 35-29 rebounding deficit. That said, the Cyclones have played quite well this year otherwise and they shouldn’t have too many issues with McNeese State. Speaking of the Cowboys, they’ve been at 66 or fewer points in five of their last six games and probably won’t put up too much of a fight in this one.
