The Mississippi State Bulldogs and the Iowa State Cyclones meet Monday in college basketball action from Sanford Pentagon. Here’s an Iowa State vs Mississippi State prediction. We will look at this from a betting perspective and determine the best Iowa State vs Mississippi State pick.
Mississippi State Bulldogs Betting Preview
Last season the Bulldogs were able to equal their win total from the 2023-24 run, going 21-13 overall with an 8-10 record in Southeastern Conference play. That effort would leave Mississippi State in the bottom half of the standings, ahead of Georgia, Vanderbilt, Texas, Oklahoma, LSU and South Carolina—with a flurry of ranked teams ahead of them. The Bulldogs limped into the postseason with a 1-4 run in their last five games, then took out LSU in the first round of the SEC Tournament. Mississippi State was then taken out by Missouri but still earned a berth in the NCAA Tournament. In the First Round versus Baylor, the Bulldogs took a 75-72 loss on March 21 to finish off their season for good.
The Bulldogs have just one game in the books so far this season, a Wednesday matchup versus North Alabama. Mississippi State had a very slim 38-37 edge at the break, but then hit their stride in the second half with a 48-25 run on the way to an 86-62 victory in the end. Topping the team in scoring was Josh Hubbard with 27 points, eight assists and one rebound in 32 minutes of work. Ja’Borri McGhee added 14 points with four rebounds, and Sergej Macura had 12 rebounds with seven points and one assist in 18 minutes during the win.
Iowa State Cyclones Betting Preview
Over on the Cyclones’ side, they’ve got two games in the bag this year. Iowa State kicked things off with a matchup last Monday versus Fairleigh Dickinson and didn’t have too many issues. The Cyclones were up 45-19 by the end of the first half and cruised to the 88-50 blowout home win with a 43-31 run in the second. Leading the way in scoring was Milan Momcilovic with 29 points and three boards. Tamin Lipsey had 18 points with six rebounds and five assists, while Joshua Jefferson doubled up on 14 points and 10 boards in the victory.
Game two was another blowout win at Hilton Coliseum, this one versus Grambling State. The Cyclones were up by 14 points in the locker room, then hit a 58-32 second-half run that produced a 102-62 victory in the end. Jefferson topped the team this time with his 20 points and eight rebounds. Momcilovic (five rebounds), Killian Toure (three rebounds) and Jamarion Batemon (one rebound) each had 11 points in the win as well.

Iowa State vs Mississippi State Prediction
I’ll probably just stay with Iowa State. The Cyclones have a couple of pretty nice wins in the books, though there are a few things to clean up after the Grambling State win. In that one Iowa State shot a nice 54.5 percent from the field with a 40-22 advantage in rebounding and a 46-26 edge in the paint. That said, the Cyclones also had 12 turnovers and went just 18-of-29 (62.1 percent) from the line. Still, it was another dominating effort after the opener—it just could have been better.
As for Mississippi State, they started slowly against North Alabama in their opener but ended up shooting a reasonable 43.7 percent from the field with a 50-33 rebounding edge and 42-24 in their favor in the paint. The Bulldogs were solid with ball control on just seven turnovers and finished strong in the second half. All of that said however, going up against Iowa State will be a completely different experience. I don’t think Mississippi State will get close enough to cover.
